💪 Condition, injuries and cards

Condition is one of the most important squad management systems in Footium. A strong player who is exhausted, injured or suspended cannot help you. Managing condition, avoiding unnecessary injury risk and tracking cards are all part of getting through a 22-match season.

How condition is lost in matches

During a match, players on the pitch lose condition for each minute they play. The amount lost depends on three main things: position, stamina and mentality.

Different positions use condition at different rates. Wide attacking roles such as wingers lose more condition than some deeper roles, while goalkeepers lose the least condition each match. This means your rotation plan should not treat every position the same. Players in high-workload roles may need more rest.

Stamina also matters. Every player has a stamina rating from 1 to 99. Higher stamina players lose condition less rapidly during matches, which makes them easier to start regularly across a season. Lower stamina players can still be useful, but they need careful management, especially if they play demanding positions.

Your team's mentality also affects condition loss. Balanced does not add extra condition loss. Attacking increases condition usage for attackers and slightly increases it for midfielders. Ultra Attacking has a larger effect in the same direction. Defensive increases condition usage for defenders, including the goalkeeper, and slightly increases it for midfielders. Ultra Defensive has a larger effect.

Recovery between matches

Between matches, players recover condition at an equal rate per hour. This recovery does not depend on position or stamina. A high stamina player loses condition more slowly during matches, but does not recover faster afterwards.

Training also costs condition, and players do not recover condition while they are in training. Before starting a training session, check whether the player is needed for the next match and whether the condition drop creates injury risk.

Injuries

Players can be injured after matches or training. They cannot be injured during matches. Injury risk is driven by the condition a player finishes on.

Any player finishing at or below 65% condition has a chance of picking up an injury lasting 50 hours. The risk is very small near the top of that range and remains low through the 50s, then rises steeply as condition falls. The closer a player finishes to the minimum condition of 20%, the greater the risk.

While injured, a player cannot play, train or recover condition. An injury icon appears on the Players page, and hovering over it shows when the player will heal. Once the injury ends, the player becomes available again and starts recovering condition.

The practical lesson is simple: avoid running important players into the ground unless the match situation is worth it. Use substitutions, rotate across the season and think carefully before combining a match, an intense mentality and training in a short period.

Yellow and red cards

Players can receive yellow and red cards during matches. If a player receives a red card, either straight red or two yellows in the same match, they are removed from the pitch. This hurts performance in that match and also suspends the player for the next game.

A suspended player cannot be included in your next matchday squad. If you do not manually replace them before the match, their position will be auto-filled.

Yellow card accumulation also matters. If a player reaches 3 yellow cards in a single season, they are suspended for the next game. Their yellow card counter then resets. If they collect another 3 yellows in the same season, they receive another one-game suspension. Yellow card counts reset between seasons.

When a player is one yellow away from suspension, an orange card icon appears next to their name on the tactics and players screens. When suspended, a red card icon appears.

Matchday checklist

Before every fixture, check for injuries, suspensions, low condition, players in training and players close to a yellow card suspension. If your club fields an ineligible team for a home match, such as missing players or using an injured or suspended player, you will not earn FC from that match. A few seconds of checks can protect your result, your player development and your FC income.
