🧠 Managing Your Lineup

As a Footium manager, setting your lineup is one of the most important decisions you'll make before each match. This guide walks through everything you need to consider.

✅ Formation & Starting XI

Within Footium there are a vast array of Formations to choose from. It’s generally a good idea to choose a formation which suits your squad’s strengths (or if you have a particular formation in mind, shaping your squad to that formation through transfers + training!).

Different formations use different positions, with variations of popular formations (such as 433) existing as well to give managers a high level of control over their team’s set up.

Choosing whether to play a formation allowing you to field lots of defensive players (such as 541) or going for a more attacking approach (such as a 343) is a key decision when setting your tactics for each game!

To set your starting XI:

  • Head to the Tactics tab
  • Click on players to drag and drop into your preferred positions
  • Use the filters (position, rating, condition) to find the best options

Make sure every player is in a natural or comfortable position to avoid chemistry penalties.

👨‍✈️ Captain Selection

Every player in Footium has a Leadership rating (this can be found by clicking on the player in tactics or the players page - it also shows on the tactics page when clicking the Captain dropdown). The higher your Captain’s leadership rating, the better impact your Captain has on your team’s performance.

The Captain can be any player in your Starting XI, and can be changed during live games.

⚙️ Team Mentality

Before and during any match, you can choose your team’s overall mentality, a key tactical lever that shapes your approach to both attack and defence. There are five options, each with pros and cons:

  • Ultra Defensive: Fortify your defence to the max. Great for protecting leads, but defenders will tire quickly and your attack will be very limited.

  • Defensive: Solid and cautious. Reduces your chance of conceding, but defensive players will lose condition faster.

  • Balanced: A steady and neutral approach with even focus on attack and defence. Ideal for most situations.

  • Attacking: Push forward and increase your chances of scoring. Your attackers will tire more quickly and you’re more vulnerable defensively.

  • Ultra Attacking: Go all-out to chase a win or late equaliser. Maximum attacking threat, but you’ll be heavily exposed at the back and attacking players will burn out quickly.

Mentality can be adjusted live during the match, make sure to react to the situation!
