🃏 Player cards, ratings and potential
Player cards are the quickest way to understand what a Footium player is now, what they could become, and how they might fit into your squad. A card shows core information such as age, nationality, current rating, rarity, potential, stamina, leadership and positional strengths.
Age and retirement
Every Footium player has an age. Players retire from playing at age 32, which means their final playing season is when they are 31. Players age by one year at the end of every season. When a player turns 31, a yellow calendar retirement icon appears next to their name on the Players page, so you can see who will not be available next season.
This matters for squad planning. A 31-year-old may still be important for a promotion push, but you should not rely on them as part of your long-term rebuild. If several players are due to retire at once, use your academy, the transfer market, or free agents to prepare replacements before the next season begins.
Positions and ratings
Players have ratings across 16 positions. Their card shows their rating in their top position, which is the position where they are strongest. Players often have close ratings in similar roles. For example, a central midfielder may also be useful at defensive midfield or attacking midfield, but much weaker in a wide defensive role.
A player can show second and third positions on their card if those ratings are close to their top position. On the tactics screen, position familiarity is shown by colours. Green and light green positions are the safest choices for chemistry. Yellow, orange and red positions indicate weaker fittedness and can reduce team chemistry if used too often.
Rarity
Rarity is based on a player's top position rating, except for Rare and Legendary players, whose rarity is linked to maximum potential.
Current rating rarities are:
- Common: 20 to 39 rating
- Bronze: 40 to 54 rating
- Silver: 55 to 69 rating
- Gold: 70+ rating
Special rarities are:
- Rare: spawned with potential to reach 85 or more maximum rating
- Legendary: spawned with potential to reach 95 or more maximum rating
Rare and Legendary cards do not change rarity based on current rating. They remain Rare or Legendary throughout their career. They also provide chemistry boosts when included in your line-up, with Legendary players giving a larger boost.
Some players also have cosmetic borders linked to the season they were generated. Borders are permanent and stay with the player across the game and market, but they do not change performance.
Potential and development
Potential is the amount a player can grow across their career. Normal players spawn with 15 to 25 total potential. Rare and Legendary players spawn with 30 to 40 total potential.
Each time you train a player, one potential is used. You decide where that growth goes. A player can be developed as a specialist by putting potential into one position, or made more versatile by spreading training across several positions.
For example, if a player has potential available, you could improve their best role to make them stronger immediately, or train a weaker but useful role to fit your tactics. This is one of the main decisions in squad building.
Stamina and leadership
Players also have stamina and leadership, both rated from 1 to 99.
Stamina affects how quickly a player loses condition during matches. Higher stamina players are easier to use regularly, while lower stamina players need more careful rotation. Stamina does not affect training condition loss or condition recovery.
Leadership affects how effective a player is as captain. A higher leadership captain gives a better team boost, applied to both attack and defence. Do not automatically give the armband to your highest-rated player. Check leadership before deciding.
