🏗️ Training and coaching
Training is how you turn potential into ratings. Coaching is an enhanced form of training that can develop multiple positions from a single unlocked potential point. Used well, these systems let you shape your squad across several seasons rather than simply waiting for better players to arrive.
Before you train
A player must have unlocked potential available before they can be improved. Potential is unlocked through match minutes. As a player spends time on the pitch, they progress towards unlocking their next potential point. You can check this on the player's profile by looking at the accumulated minutes before next potential unlock bar.
A player can unlock potential up to their maximum total potential. Once they reach that limit, they will not gain more potential to train. Normal players have 15 to 25 total potential, while Rare and Legendary players have 30 to 40 total potential.
Finding the training page
When the training ground is open, go to the game hub at footium.club/game and select Training from the left-hand menu. Training is only available at certain times in the season, usually during days when matches are being played. Training and coaching open on the same day as the first matches of the season, and close on the final matchday.
On the Training page, you will see two training slots and a coaching slot. The training slots are used for standard training. The coaching slot uses coaching sessions attached to your club.
Setting up a training session
To start training:
- Click the plus sign in a training slot.
- Choose a player from the list.
- Check whether they have available potential and enough condition.
- Choose the position you want to improve on the position grid.
- Review the condition reduction, time taken and potential used.
- Start the session and confirm it in-game.
Pay close attention to player status icons. An XI icon means the player is in your starting line-up, while SUB means they are on the bench. A yellow calendar shows they are retiring at the end of the season. Card icons show suspension risk or suspension. A red cross in a white box means the player is injured. A gold star means they are maxed out and cannot improve further.
While a player is training, they are unavailable for matches and the substitutes' bench. In tactics, they are shown with a green cone next to their name. When the training timer finishes, return to the Training page and click finish to complete the improvement.
Condition and injury risk
Training reduces condition. Players cannot be trained if the session would take them below the minimum condition of 20%. Players also do not recover condition while they are in training.
There is an injury risk if a player finishes training at or below 65% condition. An injury lasts 50 hours. While injured, a player cannot play, train or recover condition. Once the injury ends, they begin recovering condition again.
The more potential a player has already used over their lifetime, the longer future training takes. This means early development is quicker, while heavily developed players require more planning.
Coaching sessions
Coaching is enhanced training. It lets you increase a player's rating in multiple positions using a single unlocked potential point. Players who complete coaching also receive additional unlocked minutes, helping them move towards their full potential faster.
Coaching requires coaching sessions. These can be purchased through the Store. Coaching sessions are attached permanently to the club that bought them. If the club is sold, the coaching sessions remain with the club. They do not expire at season rollover.
When you choose a primary coaching position, the two secondary positions that will also improve are highlighted. These are selected from the player's next highest-rated positions after the chosen primary role.
Practical strategy
Use standard training when you want precise control over one position. Use coaching when you want versatility or faster broad development. For a promotion push, improve players who will start regularly. For long-term squad building, prioritise younger players with useful potential, good stamina and roles your tactics actually need.
