🔐 Registration windows
Registration controls which players can actually play for your club. Buying a player and registering a player are not always the same thing. You can buy and sell players at all times, but whether a player can be added to your matchday squad depends on their registration status and the current window.
The basic rule
If a player is unregistered, they are a free agent and can be registered at any time. If a player is already registered to another club, they are tied to that club until a registration window allows movement, unless they are unregistered by their current club during a limited window.
To register players in-game, go to the Players tab and click Register New Players. If you own multiple clubs in the same wallet and want to move players between them, you need to unregister players from one club, switch to the other club, then register them there when the rules allow.
Window status is shown in the in-game top bar and is also communicated in Discord.
Unlimited transfer window
The unlimited window takes place during pre-season. During this period, you can register and unregister as many players as you like. It opens before each season starts and closes at kick-off on Game Day 1.
This is the main planning window. Use it to build your squad for the whole season. If you intend to sell players and want buyers to be able to use them immediately, unregister them before the unlimited window closes. Once they are unregistered, they become free agents and can be registered by a buyer even during a closed window.
Pre-season is also when academy prospects arrive and Legendary Auctions run. Because many squad-building decisions happen at the same time, it is worth checking your retirements, condition depth, positional cover and transfer plans before Game Day 1.
Closed window
After the unlimited window closes, you cannot freely unregister registered players. A player registered to your club when the window closes can only play for your club that season unless they are unregistered during a limited window.
You can still sell a registered player during a closed period. However, the buyer cannot register and use them until the next unlimited window, unless the player becomes unregistered through a limited window. While waiting, the player stays at the selling club and can continue playing matches there, but cannot train. A red icon appears on the selling club's Players page to show the player will leave when the next unlimited window opens.
This distinction is very important for buyers. If you need immediate help, buy an unregistered player. If you are buying for next season, a registered player may still make sense.
Limited transfer windows
There are two limited windows every season. In each limited window, a club can unregister up to 3 players. This gives clubs some flexibility during the season without making squad movement completely open.
If a player is unregistered during a limited window, they instantly become a free agent and can be registered to another club. This can be useful if you want to sell a player for immediate use by the buyer, reshape your squad, or move a player between clubs you own.
Because each limited window only allows up to 3 unregisters per club, choose carefully. Prioritise players you genuinely want to move on, or players whose sale depends on immediate availability.
Free agent rule
Free agents can be registered at any time, even when all other windows are closed. This is the safety valve of the registration system. If your squad needs cover due to injuries, suspensions or poor planning, the free agent market is the place to look.
During the season, the transfer market automatically defaults to showing free agents, so you are less likely to buy someone you cannot use straight away.
Practical checklist
Before Game Day 1, register your intended squad and unregister players you want to sell as immediately usable free agents. During the season, check whether a player is registered before buying. Use limited windows carefully. If you need a player today, look for the red ❌ shield and unregistered status on the player's in-game profile.
